Yes Lady A, we are magic, just you and I...

So Mote It Be....

Or in other words, by their fruits shall ye know them, O Blessed Be...

What Pagan Leaders???

You know I use to read the wild hunts website because it contained updated pagan news, yet for some time all I hear and read is once again these stupid "witch wars" or the failure of these so-called pagan leaders we have today...Bullshit I say, bullshit to even call most of them leaders in any sense of the word. Most of there books I wouldn't dare recommend nor read, most are just full of their liberal mumbo-jumbo...yea I said it, liberal.
The failure is book publishers or popular pagan websites, camps, pagan pride groups or festivals that even host these people and there ego's. When I read of where some of these more popular pagan groups issued support for that crap in Missouri where a thug attacked a cop and got his thug ass killed made me sick! These people are not my leaders in any damn way. Jesus, and it seems its only with these stupid American groups...you hardly ever hear of trouble across the pond, my god how lucky they are...
To me, the people I truly look up too and follow are mostly now dead. Gardner, Valiente, S Farrar, E.C. Reed, and a few others. Thankfully, Ms. Crowther is still with us. These were witches who meant and stood up for something! Pagans who didnt worry about liberal social american issues...
They want to be taken seriously but look like a damn drag queen or some Halloween freak show and expect people to take them for real? Yeah ok...I think i will take my Doreen Valiente or Janet Farrar over this new crop of fluff any day of the week.
They are not leaders nor elders, just jokes and I dont follow nor support there crap. We have simply fallen too far from traditional or should I say original teachings.
Do What Thou Will, just don't call it Wicca anymore, too many have shamed it enough already...
I, for one, will remain within myself, alone...

Sherlock Holmes Tarot Deck Review by John Matthews and Wil Kinghan

Special Imbolc Announcement

Lady A and I have decided to have a private Imbolc Sabbat this year and not be involved in any circle ritual. We would like to wish all the very best and brightest of Imbolc Blessings. We hope that all will have a wonderful new year and your magick is blessed by the Goddess Brighid for the coming year.

As for the two of us, we feel our time now is best spent alone and in our own married circle like we were in years ago. We will of course keep our witchy blog updated and if time should ever arise, help all who sincerely request it. Blessed Be All, stir thy cauldron well...

When is diversity too diverse? A Witchvox article from my perspective...

A witchvox article from 25 January by Melantha tells of her struggles to find or join a coven. You see, she recently moved back home and had tried to start a group but the only replies she got back where from 2 ladies with mental issues. She goes on to say she recently got another inquiry from another lady, and guess what, she was as crazy as the others. LOL, bless her heart at least shes trying but then she goes on to discuss "diversity" within Wicca and those that are "normal".

There are those that practice Wicca who do not have 20 or so tattoos or wear pink hair or dress in black all the time. There are those that are not on the mental fringe list and who you would never believe were a witch based on appearance alone, now what a wonderful idea! Cause I fit that bill 100%. I don't care for tattoos on my person, I don't dress in black nor look "witchy". Pretty proud of it too... Yeah, I realize i am in the minority but thats fine by me..

Melantha then goes on to discuss how she is not a lesbian and how when she went to a witch festival she felt out of place somewhat by this feeling that they needed to let everyone know that they were gay in some way, you know what, big fucking deal. I can't stand that shit either. I'm straight but I don't go around hitting on every chick I see nor slobbering over my wife with pda, etc etc etc..

I feel for Melantha, I think a lot of all this has to do with age, shes middle age and has spent years in the craft. I understand the coven problems, most wanna bes just show up and don't do a damn thing in between, nor ask. I read where many of the ol timers eventually just go it on there own back to solitary practice and there is wisdom in this. Why should we give of our time and money and books and knowledge to people who are just not sincere and whos lack of interest speaks volumes..

Witch Stones / Runes

I saw this set made of wood on an etsy shop and thought, hmm, I can make those meself and so I went out and made me 8 of 'em. I have them drying now on our personal altar. I have used these stones for years now but my original ones I made from rocks.
Now to me, this is a very easy system to learn and use. I'm not sure where or how they came about. I first heard of them through Ms. Crowther's most excellent book, "Lid off the Cauldron". Any who, I have used them ever since and I found the readings spot on for the most part. I still use the tarot and always will but the witch stones can give you another angle at a question, or even a general reading. Take todays "toss" for instance...

The "lead" stone is the bird stone witch may mean an unexpected change usually a positive one, or it may mean news from an unexpected friend or family member, once again, on a positive or in a good way. The stone closest to it can help define. Now in this case I only had one other witch faced upwards and that is the corn stone witch is the good luck stone, an absolutely positive stone to get...Ho-ray for me!!! There were 3 stones that did not even fall into my casting circle and only two that faced out, now that was a weird toss for me indeed...

P.S. Within 2 hours of this reading I got a call from my lil brother, who I haven't heard from since Christmas with excellent news plus I get to see him tomorrow...I'm just saying...

Give these Witch Stones / Runes a try. There easy to make and just plain fun to use, so mote it be...

Happy Birthday Ms Doreen Valiente

Today we remember a true Witch Queen, a lady who's words have filled our hearts and minds for many many years. The essence of all that is in her Charge of the Goddess, to me, is truly what traditional witchcraft is all about. Her books are all anyone needs to understand this wonderful religion of wicca. We know she is Blessed in her time in the summerland... Blessed Be DV

What to make of January?

This picture, dear ones, is of a rutabaga plant, not ours grant you, because we cannot seem to get our seeds to germinate. We have tried twice now in lots of 18, not one dang seed germinated. Thirty six "tries" and no plant. Even paid dearly for some seeds from some fancy nursery up north, not-ta, zilch, nothing. We bought some earlier in the spring but they were already germinated and a few inches tall and grew up deliciously, but that ain't the point.
While Lady A has way more patience than i do, my pride and ego were bruised more than anything and dang it, i wanted them seeds to work <kinda like a spell we weave>.
Rutabagas love the month of January, thrive in it actually. They will sit in the earth and get fat and become ready for harvest by late spring, yum yum...
January is kinda one of them pause moments in Wicca, we have had our Esbat already and now the rest of this cold and still month lies ahead, time to water our seeds and hope for germination and harvesting in the spring months ahead. Hopefully we all have ideas and dreams that we are planning for, and a lil magick won't hurt either.
Change is always in the air, all things change, and soon these cold months will pass and we will all reap our harvest soon enough. Patience is a virtue, all good things take time, like rutabagas for example...and my witchcraft.
Plan now while we rest this month, you see that rutabaga coming outta the ground, its almost time, least it is in south Georgia...

Sacred Prostitute? Sacred Sex

You hear this a lot, maybe have read some on this topic, but is this concept actually sacred or dare I say holy?
We know that this existed in ancient times and even survives a little today, but what exactly was it, exactly? Being wiccan, I understand and believe in sacred sex/sex magick/great rite, but how is prostitution sacred. Honestly I don't feel it is. In my readings/studies, I feel it was more along the lines of profit, probably lining corrupt priests/ess pockets or for the payment of taxes. We know that Roman Caesars would use this idea for their own benefits...

Just because a practice is ancient does not mean it is correct or even remotely sacred...

Most of these women and even men were slaves who may have had no choice anyway, or were prostitutes by profession. We find this topic a lot in the spring rituals of old, kinda like our modern ostara/beltane rites.
Regardless of what it is written today by many pagan authors, women had even less rights back then than they do now, don't be fooled. The religion of Wicca is far more advanced in the ideas of equality than our ancestors, and thankfully so.

Sacred sex though, is another topic altogether and one witch at least traditional wicca embraces because we are a fertility religion, a mystery religion. Call it a nature religion if you want but that smells fluffy to me and always has. The Great Rite is a beautiful ceremony when done in actual with a dedicated/loving/trusting partner. The idea of anything but is not, thats just sex...
